Classroom Block & Observatory at Graveney School

Classroom Block & Observatory at Graveney School
UPB has been contracted to design a new 10 classroom block at the centre of the Graveney school campus in London. The building will sit adjacent to the Grade II listed Furzedown House and the brutalist school hall and canteen by the late Leonard Manasseh.

The building constructs new views and routes across and through the campus, and is a composition of internal and external teaching spaces, solids and voids. Three cross-laminated timber classroom blocks are wrapped in a mesh cladding and are linked by a series of external walkways and bridges. Roof terraces at first and second floor levels lead up to a roof-top observatory, and the route through the building from the ground to the roof is conceived of as a journey to the stars.

The building has just been awarded planning permission and is set to start on site in 2018. Were excited to be working with Graveney School again, who won the RIBA London Client of the Year Award 2016.
